Paul Brooks is a Paediatric and Fetal Cardiologist trained in both Melbourne and internationally in Canada. He was previously Head of Echocardiography and Fetal Cardiology at British Columbia Children's Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. Prior to training in Paediatrics he spent two years as a volunteer medical officer working in Vanuatu - an experience which shaped his ongoing approach to helping families understand and manage their children's heart conditions. Paul enjoys developing a supportive relationship with his patients and families, many of whom are met and followed from prior to birth.

(MD, PhD, FRANZCOG, DDU, COGU) graduated in Medicine in 1995. He was awarded a PhD in 2001 from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, for Doppler studies in the prediction of pre-eclampsia. He received board certification in obstetrics and gynaecology with subspecialty training in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound.
In 2005, A/Prof Costa became an Associate Professor in obstetrics and gynaecology and served as a board member in a variety of Brazilian Medical Associations.
In 2009, A/Prof Costa moved to Australia as a Clinical/Research Postdoctoral Fellow in fetal medicine and ultrasound in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne.
A/Prof Costa was awarded Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2011, and Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU) and Certification in Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound (COGU) in 2012.
A/Prof Costa joined Monash Ultrasound for Women in August 2012. He also maintains the position of Consultant Obstetrician Sonologist at the Monash Medical Centre, and Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Melbourne.
In 2014 A/Prof Costa was promoted to Deputy Director, Ultrasound Services, Royal Women’s Hospital.
In November 2014 A/Prof Costa was appointed Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Melbourne. He was also appointed to the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine Council and as an International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) Ambassador to Australia and Brazil.
He has strong academic credentials having published widely, including several chapters in various texts, and performs peer reviews for many international journals including Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy, Clinical Anatomy and Journal of Perinatal Medicine.
A/Prof Costa’s clinical and research interests focus on the use of ultrasound in maternal-fetal medicine, especially pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction and preterm labour. In addition, he has special interest in first trimester screening, including non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), and ultrasound diagnosis of deep endometriosis

Maria obtained her Graduate Diploma in Ultrasound in 1996 and has since worked in the specialist field of obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound across public and private tertiary level diagnostic imaging centres, multiple pregnancy units and Fetal Diagnostic Units.
Maria has presented at ASA and ASUM national conferences, covering varied topics including third trimester ultrasound, 2D/3D diagnostic imaging of the fetal face, and adenomyosis.
Deep endometriosis assessment is a key area of interest for Maria, and she is heavily involved in the development of this service within MUFW.
Maria's passion for excellence within the ultrasound profession sees her as a dynamic and enthusiastic Sonographer Educator. Her educator role extends beyond the trainee to cover all levels of clinical staff, ensuring the highest of standards across the Unit.

Nikki trained in ultrasound in Adelaide, obtaining her Graduate Diploma in Ultrasound in 2005. She broadened her skills in both general ultrasound and obstetrics whilst working in the UK for several years at large tertiary referral NHS Trusts. After returning to Australia she decided to continue in the specialist field of obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound joining Monash Ultrasound for Women in 2012. Nikki is particularly passionate about early diagnostic imaging and the use of 3D/4D ultrasound with its ability to enhance diagnostic accuracy in both obstetric and gynaecological imaging.
